Drum Major

WO1 Ian Wheeler joined the CLB in September, 1972 and was posted to "A" Company shortly thereafter.  He joined the Regimental Band in October, 1977 as a member of the percussion section.  He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in October, 2000 and also served as the Band's property manager from 2001 until 2009.  He was appointed Drum Major in March 2003 and promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer First Class following that appointment.

Ian is the third of four generations of CLB members.   His father, the late Joe Wheeler was a proud member of the Regimental Band for some 45 years and Ian's wife Renee presently holds the rank of Captain and serves as CLB Aide-de-Camp for The Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland.  Their daughter Jennifer is also a member of the band.

Ian is also involved in other volunteer organizations.  He has just completed a term as Provincial Commissioner of St. John Ambulance.  As a result of his involvement with them, he has been awarded the title Officer of the Order of St. John, the Service Medal of the Order of St. John, and the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal. He has also served approximately fourteen years with the Canadian Naval Reserve and has been awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration.
