WO1 Ian Wheeler joined the CLB in September, 1972 and was posted
to "A" Company shortly thereafter. He joined the
Regimental Band in October, 1977 as a member of the percussion
section. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in October,
2000 and also served as the Band's property manager from
2001 until 2009. He was appointed Drum Major in March 2003 and promoted
to the rank of Warrant Officer First Class following that appointment.
Ian
is the third of four generations of CLB members.
His father, the late Joe Wheeler was a proud member of
the Regimental Band for some 45 years and Ian's wife Renee presently
holds the rank of Captain and serves as CLB
Aide-de-Camp for The Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland. Their daughter Jennifer
is also a member of the band.
Ian is also involved in other volunteer organizations. He
has just completed a term as
Provincial Commissioner of St. John Ambulance. As a result
of his involvement with them, he has been awarded the title Officer of the Order of St. John,
the Service Medal of the Order of St. John, and the Queen's Golden
Jubilee Medal. He has also served approximately fourteen years
with the Canadian Naval Reserve and has been awarded the Canadian
Forces Decoration.
